Year-End, More to Come

Happy Holidays from Delta Sigma Pi.

2013-12-25 happy holidays

And Happy Holidays from the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. We are wrapping up this calendar year and looking forward to the next one. Our chapter is half-way through its fiscal 2013-2014 year, has done much, and is looking forward to finishing the year strong.

Last weekend was the 3rd annual Ugly Sweater Party at the High Life Lounge.

2013-12-14 Ugly Sweater

Sickness kept several brothers away, but those who were hearty enough to attend had a great time. Several highlights included seeing some old friends (including 1 visiting from London), drinking some of the finest beer (High Life and PBR), and singing a rousing version of “The 12 Days of Christmas”. Don’t let the president of the alumni chapter tell you she can’t sing, because her voice put our entire table in the Christmas spirit.

Several things to look forward to in 2014 include: trips to Halsey and LEAD, great happy hours, community service, a professional development event, recruiting graduating seniors, and an exciting survey coming up in January (stay tuned)! Be sure to check out the calendar section of the weblog, for the latest info on what’s coming up.

standing on the shoulders of giants

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
This alumni chapter is happy to congratulate the Greater Des Moines Partnership for serving central Iowa for 125 years! To celebrate its 125th anniversary, the Partnership has published “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” chronicling the historic foundation of the Partnership, its signature accomplishments, the people who made it happen, and taking a look as to what the future holds.
The book can be read online here.
A colorful read, full of pictures and history, you’ll be entertained by stories like the creation of a baseball field built on a landfill (what is now Principal Park) and amazed that Prairie Meadows filed for bankruptcy in its early years. If you love Des Moines or if you don’t know anything about Des Moines, this read is a must.

Hockey Enjoyed and Year-End Party Coming Up

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi took in a hockey game on Friday, November 22.

2013-11-22 Iowa Wild Hockey

The Iowa Wild are new to Des Moines’s Wells Fargo Arena this year. With some $10 tickets and some $2 beers (pretty tiny) brothers enjoyed the action and excitement of everything that has to do with a hockey game. One alumni brother is currently employed by the Iowa Wild and was working at the fan relations table that evening. The Iowa Wild lost to the Grand Rapids Griffins, but it was still fun to be in the crowd and see a couple fights on the ice.

12/14 Ugly Sweater
Join some local Deltasigs for a classic ugly sweater party. This annual event is always a good time. The party is Saturday, December 14 starting at 8:00 pm (time change) at the High Life Lounge (200 SW 2nd Street, downtown). This is a fairly informal and fun event. Friends and significant others are welcome to attend this year-end celebration.
