The latest Drake Alumni Newsletter was released this week. Page 2 is copied below.
The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi held its monthly happy hour on October 21. Several brothers enjoyed the new Guiness Blonde American Lager and traded stories and conversation over a couple of hours at Limey’s Pub.
A new fundraising idea was thought of… to create one of those calendars that people always make in the movies and sell them at national events. No one has directly volunteered to be a model for the photo shoot, so if you want to be Brother January, just send us an email.
The sad part of the night was the former chapter president, Laura is moving to Minnesota and joining TCAC in November, so this was her last happy hour. She waved goodbye to the group as she left. This left some brothers very emotional.

The monthly happy hour of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is coming up next week. Be sure to stop by Limey’s Pub (1970 Grand Ave. WDM) Tuesday, 10/21 between 5:30 and 7 pm. This will be a special happy hour, since we will be saying goodbye to our brother and former president, Laura. She is moving to Minnesota in November, so this is her send-off. Limey’s is one of her favorite bars. So if you want to be there for Laura’s going away, do not miss this event. If you have no idea who Laura even is, do not miss this event. We will need to make some new friends to make up for the loss of Laura, so if you are a new person the October happy hour is a great one to get introduced at.
Iowa appears to be the Hawkeye State
New York Times
A New York Times
interactive map showing how zip codes cheer for NCAA Football teams seems to show the majority of Iowa rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes. CyclONE Nation (Iowa State fans) looks to be an island around the city of Ames. Interestingly the plurality of fans in some Western Iowa areas root for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The annual edition of “ia magazine” has just been published.
Look for articles on the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, the State Law Library (at the Capitol Building in Des Moines), and the “Iowa by Trail” app.
One of the attendees of the June 2014 TCAC Pig Roast was brother Doug Daggett, the Republican endorsed candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis, Richfield, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley, Hopkins, New Hope, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Brooklyn Center, Fridley, Columbia Heights, Hilltop, and parts of Edina, Spring Lake Park, and St. Anthony. He is challenging incumbent U.S. Representative Keith Ellison (DFL).
We would expect a Representative Daggett to (among other things) further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community. It will be a difficult race as Minnesota’s 5th is one of the most left-leaning districts in the state. The incumbent, Keith Ellison (DFL), won 55.56% of the vote in 2006, 70.88% in 2008, 67.69% in 2010, and most recently 74.47% in 2012. Barack Obama won 73.23% of the vote in MN-5 in 2012.
Another elected office-holder is Grand President Onuka Ibe. His recent alumni message is below:
