The calendar is changing. Instead of going to Louie’s Wine Dive for the regularly scheduled happy hour and chapter meeting Thursday, November 19, all Des Moines area alumni are invited to attend the Drake chapter’s initiation ceremony.
The initiation will be held on the Drake Campus.
Olin Hall, room 101. See the calendar page of the weblog for more information on the location of this building.
The ceremony will begin at 5:30.
After the ceremony, we’ll gather the alumni in attendance and head to a local watering hole for drinks and/or dinner.
Several members of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi attended the Great Plains Regional Conference Saturday, October 24 in Omaha, NE. Planned and executed by RVP, Jillian with the help of several alumni volunteers, this 1-day event provided for networking, educational sessions, food, and fun activities.
6 dues paying members of the DSM-CIA (pictured above with other alumni from around the region) enjoyed the program, held on the campus of the University of Nebraska Omaha. In total, attendance was about 45 with 5 of the 6 collegiate chapters in the region represented.
The day kicked off with an ice-breaker activity, followed by a fun take on a serious issue: risk management. Brothers were presented with situations involving risky activity and had to identify the problems with what was happening and describe solutions for prevention and remediation of these violations.
There was a period of speed networking next. Alumni got involved meeting the students as well as students from different colleges getting to know each other.
Over lunch, 2 alumni from the Lincoln-Greater Nebraska Alumni Chapter provided materials and instruction for a “Make a Difference Day” community service activity. Brothers wrote cards that would be sent to American Military Servicemen and women.
After lunch, PGP Norm presented a great session on history of the ritual of the fraternity.
Then a Des Moines Alum presented on what collegiates should be doing now to jump-start their careers and get jobs.
Chapters then had an opportunity to share best practices and events that stand out within their chapters.
Finally the eventful day concluded with some team-building “Minute to Win It” games followed by a brief alumni panel.
Several alumni attended a social event after the conference hosted by PGP Norm and the Lincoln-Greater Nebraska Alumni Chapter. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a truly great day.
