Also in this issue is some interesting history on the Delta Sigma Pi badge, stories about Tim Augustine, Julie Stackhouse (Drake grad and 2016 Deltasig Career Achievement Award winner), and PGP Bill Kinsella, among other features.
Earlier in the month of March was a great Happy Hour hosted by the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. The attendance was above average and there were several new faces. Several of the more recent grads of Iowa State, now living in the Des Moines metro came by to check out the chapter. And they were impressed with how we kicked back after a Thursday of working at the happy hour at the West Des Moines Chicken Coop. $.50 wing specials didn’t hurt much either!
Don’t forget to check out the calendar page for updates on upcoming events and Des Moines continues to be awesome, as noted below.
Mark your calendars with a few items of note from the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi.
Coming up soon is the monthly happy hour. Thursday, March 24 we will be gathering at The Chicken Coop in West Des Moines. Check out the calendar page of the Weblog and FB for all the details. Everyone should have had plenty of time to recover after NCAA madness in Des Moines and St. Patrick’s day, so this is sure to be a great time watching basketball, swapping stories, and a few laughs.
Look for more info soon about the Alpha Iota Chapter (Drake University) annual alumni picnic. You don’t have to be a Drake grad to attend. Mark your calendars for
Sunday, May 1 (11 AM – 1 PM) at MacRae Park just south of downtown Des Moines.
The National Fraternity Website had a news piece on great alumni events. Both the Lincoln/Great Nebraska alumni chapter and TCAC were noted for the great things they do. This includes the June 25 Pig Roast (as noted on the calendar page of the Weblog).

Many members of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi participated in the 2016 Halsey Invitation – Volley Ball / Basketball Tournament. One reason was because of the convenient location… Des Moines! The Drake Chapter hosted the 58th annual tournament held at the Bell Center on the Drake University Campus Saturday, February 27, 2016. The weekend’s theme was ‘Heroes Villains Halsey’ . Friday night activities and a Saturday night banquet were held at the Holiday Inn-Mercy near downtown.
The (above pictured) non-competitive volley ball team fielded by the DSM-CIA Chapter did not take home any trophies, but all had a great weekend playing in the tournament and socializing with other brothers from the Great Plains and North Central regions.
The weekend kicked off with a happy hour organized by the alumni chapter.
Many local and out-of-town alumni (including one Drake grad from Texas) attended this Friday evening event at Exile Brewing Co. in the Western Gateway neighborhood of Des Moines. Notable attendees included the Halseys! All the Deltasigs enjoyed the Exile brews and many also ordered some of the brew-pub’s excelled food.
Then Friday night, brothers could get checked-in to the hotel and tournament and have some fun with a ‘Family Feud’ game hosted by the Drake Chapter.
Saturday’s tournament had volley ball teams competing in the morning and basketball teams facing off in the afternoon.
Another notable team featuring several members of the DSM-CIA was the ‘Mu Psi Clones’ (pictured above). These Iowa State alums represented Ames for the weekend, since unfortunately no collegiate teams were registered for the Mu Psi Chapter. The TCAC basketball team took 2nd place in the tournament.
The banquet Saturday night was a great one. Held at the top of the tower at the Holiday Inn, the room provided excellent views of downtown Des Moines as well as great banquet food. The evening’s program was good and of course included the presentation of awards, the annual countdown, and a memorable speech delivered by Mr. Halsey himself! Also announced was the winning bid for the 2017 tournament, the Alpha Delta Chapter at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. The Alpha Delta Chapter hosted the tournament most recently in 2015.
