Since launching this Weblog with a single post on July 19, 2013, this one-stop-shop for all information about the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi has consistently published info relevant to local brothers. This is the weblogs’s 100th Post!
To celebrate, here is a listicle with 7 interesting or little-known facts about the alumni chapter and its weblog.
(1.) Since it’s launch, the weblog has had 2,256 views and 1,405 visitors.
(2.) The day with the highest views was May 3, 2016 (the date Jillian’s wine article was posted).
(3.) The weblog has 4 years worth of annual reports available for download at the “Docs” page.
(4.) This alumni chapter has been consistently franchised since the 2011-2012 year. Prior to 2011 it was franchised for 2 years (2006-2007 & 2007-2008). It was also briefly franchised late in the 1970s and again in the early 1980s. Its longest franchised stretch was from 1928-1940 (12 years).
(5.) All the most-active members are currently under the age of 35. But brothers of all ages are welcome to get more involved!
(6.) Several current and former members of the alumni chapter have become Regional Awards Committee Members, District Directors, RVPs, Officers of other Alumni Chapters, and Golden Council Members. A few brothers have joined the Twin Cities Alumni Chapter after moving from Des Moines to Minneapolis (suburbs).
(7.) The alumni chapter has welcomed many brothers to Central Iowa especially during the 2012 Fall LEAD in West Des Moines, The 2013 Halsey in Ames, the 2015 Spring LEAD in Iowa City, and the 2016 Halsey in Des Moines.
The 2016 Annual Meeting of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi was held Tuesday June 21. There was a brief social at Legends American Grill in Downtown Des Moines followed by the actual business meeting. A quorum was met for the business of the chapter to be conducted.
Meeting highlights include:
Electing officers for the July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017 term
President = Tom
VPCO = David
VPCR = Jody
VPF = Phil
Community Service Chair = Jenny
Social Chair = Nate
The alumni chapter dues structure was discussed. There were ideas to increase the annual dues and/or offer lifetime memberships (similar to the Chicago Alumni Chapter). Good discussion was had on these items, but no changes were made to the current dues level or structure. In general annual dues remain $10.
Ideas for events were discussed. This included deciding that there will be a happy hour July 21 at Taco Hangover in West Des Moines.
After the business meeting was adjourned, brothers walked over to Principal park where the Iowa Cubs were scheduled to play a baseball game. But it was rainy.
Since the annual meeting, the Franchise Form has been submitted to the Central Office and the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter is ready to begin another great (fiscal) year!

There will be a recap of this past year, discussion of items for the coming year, and elections for leadership positions.
Following the meeting, we will head to Principal Park to cheer on the Iowa Cubs as they face off against the Nashville Sounds.
All dues-paying members for the 2016-17 fiscal year will receive one complimentary ticket to the game.
