Newsworthy for the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is that the search has begun for a new Chapter President. The previous president respectfully resigned the post earlier this month. Contact other officers if you are interested in stepping up and leading our chapter.
November 7 is Founders’ Day, but many in the Great Plains Region celebrated a few days early at the 2016 Great Plains Regional Conference held Saturday, November 5 in Des Moines. About 40 people registered for the conference including many collegiates, 7 members of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter, other area alumni, and even a few pledges of the fraternity.
The event included networking sessions for brothers to get to know each other a little better, presentations on CMP and the GIN System, some history on the founders and the early days of the fraternity (presented by a Past Grand President), fraternity FAQs, team-building/minute-to-win-it games, and an alumni panel.
After the conference, several attendees went to a local restaurant for a social. The day was both a good time and an educational experience for everyone in attendance.
The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi held its October Happy Hour at the Iowa Tap Room 10/20.
Conversation included ideas for the rest of the calendar year and recent happenings. Making the happy hour very exciting was the Firetrucker Brewery was holding a Tap Takeover at the same time as the happy hour. So brothers could hear live music and receive some free swag from the local brewery.
The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi took part in community service work for Make a Difference Day. While the official MADD is October 22, five brothers from the alumni chapter gathered with countless other volunteers Sunday, October 23 to volunteer to cleanup the Drake Stadium after the annual Reggie’s Sleepout event.
Reggie’s Sleepout is an annual fundraiser for Iowa Homeless Youth Centers.
The cleanup took most of the morning and consisted of breaking down cardboard boxes (used to construct homeless shelters on the football field) and loading the cardboard and other materials into a facilities garbage truck. Among the many volunteers for this cleanup were several members of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at Drake University, where the annual event is held.
