Des Moines Alumni represented at LEAD School

Two Alumni brothers from the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter traveled to Minneapolis Oct. 12-14 to attend the fall LEAD School in the North Central Province.

Plenty of networking and socializing with old friends and new connections was had. There was discussion about Ritual and lots of new things happening with the fraternity. Especially exciting were some updates with the Leadership Foundation and the new, Presidents’ Academy.

One of the Day’s break-out sessions was an alumni panel that Des Moines’ own, David participated on.

At the Great Plains Regional meeting and awards presentation, Des Moines’ own, Jody received an award for being the best District Director in the region.
The Alpha Iowa Chapter at Drake University was awarded the most outstanding chapter in the nation.

In other news… be sure to mark your calendars (and check out the calendar page of this weblog) for the November happy hour on Thurs. 11/15.

“A” great happy hour & simulation golf upcoming

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chpater of Delta Sigma Pi held its September monthly happy hour last week, September 20, 2018.

2 Drake students joined the social, taking the attendance to double digits (10). The happy hour was held at Eatery A on Ingersoll Ave. The popular spot has a great happy hour and was very busy that evening.

Pizzas, as always, were tasty and good times were had. Check out the calendar page of this weblog for info on the upcoming October happy hour at Urbandale’s Range Grill & Golf.

Happy Hours & Upcoming Community Service

Fall is just around the corner and students are heading back to class. The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi hosted its August happy hour at BeerStyles Taproom & Gastropub in West Des Moines.

Brothers enjoyed sampling and drinking many different beers (though not all beer received glowing reviews, and many beers must be so popular that they were out of stock before the happy hour even began).
Much conversation was had and planning was done for the upcoming community service event, preparing a meal for the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines. Check out FB for all the latest details and get in contact to sign up for your specific volunteer shift/role.

The happy hours will keep on rolling. Be sure to stop by Eatery A in Des Moines on September 20 for the next event.

The Delta Sigma Pi – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter hosted 20+ people from 8 alumni chapters across 6 states to brave the heat, see the sites, and spend the day with great friends. Thank you to everyone who came from near and far to make for a fun and memorable day!”

Highlights included the Iowa Craft Beer Tent, the Iowa Wine Experience, great food on a stick (especially the brown sugar pork belly), and seeing large things (like pumpkins and animals).

2018 Annual Meeting Results

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi held its annual meeting on Thursday June 21. This year’s annual meeting had good attendance, a fun atmosphere, and excellent conversation about future ideas and current planning.

The chapter had reserved the meeting room at the Ingersoll Palmer’s location, which provided a good space for taking care of official business as well as enjoying the social.
Many brothers enjoyed the keynote presentation by one brother who recently returned from Europe after about 1 year away, having backpacked and volunteered along the way.
The annual report was presented. Find the PDF version on the “Docs” page of this weblog.
Officer elections were held. Find the new officers on the “Officers” page of this weblog.
Events in-the-works were discussed along with ideas for new events. Many ideas were brought up for socials, community service, and professional development. Be sure to check out the “Calendar” page of this weblog for all the latest.

After the June 21 meeting all the online forms were completed and the franchising and insurance fees paid so that the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter is officially franchised through June 30, 2019. Here’s to another good year!

2018 Annual Meeting Notice: Thurs. June 21

The annual meeting of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is coming up in June.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 21. See all the details on the calendar page of this weblog.
6/21 we will be meeting at Palmer’s (2843 Ingersoll) in the small meeting room that we have reserved. Find the link to the FB event here.
The meeting portion will begin at 6 pm, but there will be social/networking/mingling starting at 5:30 pm. Palmer’s has beer and wine for purchase. Besides the beverages and food for purchase, brothers can snack off a dessert tray, courtesy of the chapter.

At the annual meeting, officers will be elected, $10 annual dues payments will be accepted, and there will be brainstorming for events and work on event planning. This will be a great opportunity for the regulars to enjoy a social and help with planning. And it will be an excellent opportunity for new alumni, brothers new to Des Moines, or people wanting to get more active in the chapter to see what it’s about and learn how to get more involved.

May 17 was the last monthly happy hour at Exile. It was a hot and sunny day and several alumni and 3 collegiates enjoyed the patio, the brews and food from Exile, and a good social to kick off the summer.
