The previous happy hour was August 31 at the relatively new Barn Town Brewing in West Des Moines. Alumni brothers enjoyed spicy popcorn, craft beers (including some mead), and a selection of dinner treats. There was even some ice cream eaten at the after-party at Rita’s down the street.

This Saturday August 5 is the Summer Picnic with the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. Find more information and the latest updates on Facebook.
As pictured above, central Iowa brothers attended an evening of wine and music Thursday July 20 at Jasper Winery. It was a very hot day and the crowds at Jasper were below average, but a good time was had. The winery’s sangria hit the spot to many in attendance and several purchased food from a food truck or snacked on things brought from home. It was Jillian’s last official event with chapter while living in Des Moines.
Many neighborhoods hosted picnics Tuesday, August 1 as part of National Night Out. One local alumni submitted an op-ed to the Des Moines Register’s Better Iowa series encouraging YPs to attend this annual event.
Final bit of news: Adam, the first president of this alumni chapter after it was refranchised in 2011 has gotten married. The wedding was July 29 in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Adam moved away from central Iowa to Minnesota in 2013. Adam is currently the President of the Twin Cities Alumni Chapter.
The July 2017 issue of “The Deltasig” magazine has been published.

Very concerning to this weblog was the letter from the Fraternity’s Executive Director on page 38 regarding the protection of Delta Sigma Pi trademarks.
“The Board of Directors, in consideration of protecting our trademarks, recently updated policy so that only vendors officially licensed by the Fraternity (or through its agents) have the right to produce merchandise using the the Delta Sigma Pi name, letters, or insignia.” writes Bill Schilling.
There are new rules relating to products including apparel, glassware, publications, and web pages.
More research will be done to ensure this web page complies with all new rules relating to the fraternity’s trademarked material.
Don’t forget the next happy hour with the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is Thursday 7/20 at Jasper Winery. More info on FB.

Several Summer events were planned around central Iowa. Be sure to check the calendar page of this weblog for info on these events as well as links to Facebook events.

See FB event
Brothers are welcome to be social between 5:30 and 6 pm. Then at 6 pm the business portion of the evening will commence.
Business will include: collecting dues ($10 for the year earns each brother the privilege to vote on all chapter business), electing officers, electing delegates to August’s Grand Chapter Congress, approving reimbursements from our chapter funds, organizing for the next fiscal year (including franchising details), brainstorming ideas for future events, and more.
This event won’t be all business, there will be fun and socialization too. It’s a great opportunity for brothers who have not been active with the chapter recently to see what’s been going on and learn about getting involved in the future.
Also note there is a community service opportunity Wednesday, June 14. Brothers from the alumni chapter are getting together to volunteer at Zoo Brew.

Last week was the April happy hour hosted by the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi.
The event was held at the newly-opened 2nd location of Peace Tree Brewing. This taproom in the East Village was fun and had good brews available for sale. Sour beers are brewed here, but none of the alumni brothers in attendance went for the sour beers. A fun time was had by all in attendance.
As part of the Drake Relays events on campus, the Alpha Iota Chapter at Drake University will be hosting its annual Alumni Picnic. All area alumni are welcome to attend this event.
It will be held Saturday, April 29 from 2 – 4 pm in the courtyard of the Drake West Village apartments (student housing).
