The monthly happy hour back on January 18th was a manly one. Before the arrival of a female brother, 9 men (alumni and collegiate) were in attendance at Sully’s in West Des Moines.
Several rounds of beer flowed and popular meals included chicken tenders, nachos, and 2 brave souls tried the $10 steak dinner. The dinner included a baked potato and Texas toast. It was nothing to write home about, but received positive reviews. It came with a real knife, but only a plastic fork and Styrofoam plate.
Much discussion was had about the upcoming Halsey tournament, the upcoming LEAD Provincial Council, and the general state of the job market and career prospects.
Mark your calendars for the February Happy Hour (Thursday,
2/15/18 CHANGED TO Feb. 22 at Whiskey River in Ankeny). Located in the relatively new Prairie Trail development near Ankeny’s DMACC campus, Whiskey River has proved to be a popular establishment in a quickly-developing part of the Metro. Look on the calendar page of this weblog for more information and link to the FB event.

6 alumni brothers traveled to Ames for cake (pictured above) and to enjoy a social and ‘Family Feud’ game against 15 or so Mu Psi brothers at Iowa State University. It was a close game, but the alumni team came out the big winner (also winning the fast money round at the game’s end).
Thanks to the Mu Psi chapter for the invite and for organizing and hosting the event.
There was also an event in Des Moines that same evening hosted by the Alpha Iota Chapter of Drake University. The evening’s social was held at a local brew pub.

As pictured above, central Iowa brothers attended an evening of wine and music Thursday July 20 at Jasper Winery. It was a very hot day and the crowds at Jasper were below average, but a good time was had. The winery’s sangria hit the spot to many in attendance and several purchased food from a food truck or snacked on things brought from home. It was Jillian’s last official event with chapter while living in Des Moines.
Many neighborhoods hosted picnics Tuesday, August 1 as part of National Night Out. One local alumni submitted an op-ed to the Des Moines Register’s Better Iowa series encouraging YPs to attend this annual event.
Final bit of news: Adam, the first president of this alumni chapter after it was refranchised in 2011 has gotten married. The wedding was July 29 in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Adam moved away from central Iowa to Minnesota in 2013. Adam is currently the President of the Twin Cities Alumni Chapter.
