The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi welcomed brothers from across the country to the nationally recognized Iowa State Fair. Over 116,000 people attended the fair Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018. And a handful of them wore their Deltasig letters with pride.
One of the event’s main organizers posted this message on Facebook after the event: “Deltasig Day at the Iowa State Fair was a success! The Delta Sigma Pi – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter hosted 20+ people from 8 alumni chapters across 6 states to brave the heat, see the sites, and spend the day with great friends. Thank you to everyone who came from near and far to make for a fun and memorable day!”
Highlights included the Iowa Craft Beer Tent, the Iowa Wine Experience, great food on a stick (especially the brown sugar pork belly), and seeing large things (like pumpkins and animals).
Be sure to check the calendar page of this weblog for info on upcoming events including the August 23 happy hour.
The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi held its annual meeting on Thursday June 21. This year’s annual meeting had good attendance, a fun atmosphere, and excellent conversation about future ideas and current planning.
The chapter had reserved the meeting room at the Ingersoll Palmer’s location, which provided a good space for taking care of official business as well as enjoying the social.
Many brothers enjoyed the keynote presentation by one brother who recently returned from Europe after about 1 year away, having backpacked and volunteered along the way.
The annual report was presented. Find the PDF version on the “Docs” page of this weblog.
Officer elections were held. Find the new officers on the “Officers” page of this weblog.
Events in-the-works were discussed along with ideas for new events. Many ideas were brought up for socials, community service, and professional development. Be sure to check out the “Calendar” page of this weblog for all the latest.
After the June 21 meeting all the online forms were completed and the franchising and insurance fees paid so that the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter is officially franchised through June 30, 2019. Here’s to another good year!
The annual meeting of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is coming up in June.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 21. See all the details on the calendar page of this weblog.
6/21 we will be meeting at Palmer’s (2843 Ingersoll) in the small meeting room that we have reserved. Find the link to the FB event here.
The meeting portion will begin at 6 pm, but there will be social/networking/mingling starting at 5:30 pm. Palmer’s has beer and wine for purchase. Besides the beverages and food for purchase, brothers can snack off a dessert tray, courtesy of the chapter.
At the annual meeting, officers will be elected, $10 annual dues payments will be accepted, and there will be brainstorming for events and work on event planning. This will be a great opportunity for the regulars to enjoy a social and help with planning. And it will be an excellent opportunity for new alumni, brothers new to Des Moines, or people wanting to get more active in the chapter to see what it’s about and learn how to get more involved.
May 17 was the last monthly happy hour at Exile. It was a hot and sunny day and several alumni and 3 collegiates enjoyed the patio, the brews and food from Exile, and a good social to kick off the summer.
Mark your calendar for 11 AM Sunday, April 29.
Mark your calendars for the April happy hour with the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. The casual, social gathering will be held Thursday, April 19 at Wellman’s Pub & Rooftop (AKA Wellman’s West) in West Des Moines. Brothers and alumni will begin to gather around 5:30 pm (most likely on the ground floor) of this local favorite at 597 Market St, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
Only a few days after the April happy hour will be National Alumni Day (April 25). Link to website here.
National Alumni Day was just one of many interesting features in the March 2018 issue of “The Deltasig”.
Read it online here.
One article features an alumni who has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in every state in the nation. The article even mentions the biggest popcorn ball from right here in Iowa (page 14). Volunteering was a prominent theme in the March magazine.
There are a couple pictures of TCAC in the March issue (page 35 and 36) and a picture from Lincoln/Greater Nebraska (page 36).
And showcasing past LEAD Schools, the above picture was seen on page 8.
The monthly happy hour back on January 18th was a manly one. Before the arrival of a female brother, 9 men (alumni and collegiate) were in attendance at Sully’s in West Des Moines.
Several rounds of beer flowed and popular meals included chicken tenders, nachos, and 2 brave souls tried the $10 steak dinner. The dinner included a baked potato and Texas toast. It was nothing to write home about, but received positive reviews. It came with a real knife, but only a plastic fork and Styrofoam plate.
Much discussion was had about the upcoming Halsey tournament, the upcoming LEAD Provincial Council, and the general state of the job market and career prospects.
Mark your calendars for the February Happy Hour (Thursday,
2/15/18 CHANGED TO Feb. 22 at Whiskey River in Ankeny). Located in the relatively new Prairie Trail development near Ankeny’s DMACC campus, Whiskey River has proved to be a popular establishment in a quickly-developing part of the Metro. Look on the calendar page of this weblog for more information and link to the FB event.

The award-winning Twin Cities Alumni Chapter (TCAC) has compiled a year-in-review PDF that can be found online here. Check it out to see what our neighbors to the North have accomplished in 2017. It features many good photos throughout its 8 pages.
Another thing to view or save is the Des Moines Business Record’s 2018 “Book of Lists” (online here). This publication notes many of the major employers, groups, boards, industries, etc. around central Iowa. Save it for handy reference during the year.
