2018 Annual Meeting Notice: Thurs. June 21

The annual meeting of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi is coming up in June.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 21. See all the details on the calendar page of this weblog.
6/21 we will be meeting at Palmer’s (2843 Ingersoll) in the small meeting room that we have reserved. Find the link to the FB event here.
The meeting portion will begin at 6 pm, but there will be social/networking/mingling starting at 5:30 pm. Palmer’s has beer and wine for purchase. Besides the beverages and food for purchase, brothers can snack off a dessert tray, courtesy of the chapter.

At the annual meeting, officers will be elected, $10 annual dues payments will be accepted, and there will be brainstorming for events and work on event planning. This will be a great opportunity for the regulars to enjoy a social and help with planning. And it will be an excellent opportunity for new alumni, brothers new to Des Moines, or people wanting to get more active in the chapter to see what it’s about and learn how to get more involved.

May 17 was the last monthly happy hour at Exile. It was a hot and sunny day and several alumni and 3 collegiates enjoyed the patio, the brews and food from Exile, and a good social to kick off the summer.

March’s magazine and April’s happy hour

Mark your calendars for the April happy hour with the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. The casual, social gathering will be held Thursday, April 19 at Wellman’s Pub & Rooftop (AKA Wellman’s West) in West Des Moines. Brothers and alumni will begin to gather around 5:30 pm (most likely on the ground floor) of this local favorite at 597 Market St, West Des Moines, IA 50266.

Only a few days after the April happy hour will be National Alumni Day (April 25). Link to website here.

National Alumni Day was just one of many interesting features in the March 2018 issue of “The Deltasig”.
Read it online here.

One article features an alumni who has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in every state in the nation. The article even mentions the biggest popcorn ball from right here in Iowa (page 14). Volunteering was a prominent theme in the March magazine.
There are a couple pictures of TCAC in the March issue (page 35 and 36) and a picture from Lincoln/Greater Nebraska (page 36).

And showcasing past LEAD Schools, the above picture was seen on page 8.

A manly happy hour

The monthly happy hour back on January 18th was a manly one. Before the arrival of a female brother, 9 men (alumni and collegiate) were in attendance at Sully’s in West Des Moines.

Several rounds of beer flowed and popular meals included chicken tenders, nachos, and 2 brave souls tried the $10 steak dinner. The dinner included a baked potato and Texas toast. It was nothing to write home about, but received positive reviews. It came with a real knife, but only a plastic fork and Styrofoam plate.

Much discussion was had about the upcoming Halsey tournament, the upcoming LEAD Provincial Council, and the general state of the job market and career prospects.

Mark your calendars for the February Happy Hour (Thursday, 2/15/18 CHANGED TO Feb. 22 at Whiskey River in Ankeny). Located in the relatively new Prairie Trail development near Ankeny’s DMACC campus, Whiskey River has proved to be a popular establishment in a quickly-developing part of the Metro. Look on the calendar page of this weblog for more information and link to the FB event.

2018 begins with HH, book of lists

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi will kick off the new year with a happy hour in January. Check the ‘calendar’ page of this weblog for links to the FB events for the Thursday January 18 happy hour at Sully’s Irish Pub in West Des Moines. Make your New Year’s Resolution to join a group of local alumni brothers starting around 5:30 pm. There will certainly be discussion about upcoming events for 2018 including participation in the February Halsey Volley Ball and Basketball Tournament.

The award-winning Twin Cities Alumni Chapter (TCAC) has compiled a year-in-review PDF that can be found online here. Check it out to see what our neighbors to the North have accomplished in 2017. It features many good photos throughout its 8 pages.

Another thing to view or save is the Des Moines Business Record’s 2018 “Book of Lists” (online here). This publication notes many of the major employers, groups, boards, industries, etc. around central Iowa. Save it for handy reference during the year.

Happy Holidays

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi held its annual holiday tradition Saturday December 9. Several alumni brothers got together for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.

Thanks to Jody for hosting an excellent social event featuring a ‘Yankee Swap’ gift exchange, games, food, and drinks. Many brothers had never played the ‘meme’ card/party game ‘What Do You Meme?”. It was fun to play and lots of laughs were had.

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter plans to field a volley ball team at the Feb. 9-11, 2018 Halsey Tournament. See the “Halsey” tab and “Calendar” tab of this weblog for more info and get registered before prices increase December 20.

2017 Founders Recap, holiday events approaching

The Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi participated in 2 separate Founders’ Day events last week (November 7).

6 alumni brothers traveled to Ames for cake (pictured above) and to enjoy a social and ‘Family Feud’ game against 15 or so Mu Psi brothers at Iowa State University. It was a close game, but the alumni team came out the big winner (also winning the fast money round at the game’s end).

Thanks to the Mu Psi chapter for the invite and for organizing and hosting the event.
There was also an event in Des Moines that same evening hosted by the Alpha Iota Chapter of Drake University. The evening’s social was held at a local brew pub.

Grand President, Tricia sent a message for Founders’ Day via email:
