2018 TCAC pig roast more than a little laugh

Two brothers from Des Moines traveled to the Twin Cities over the June 23, 2018 weekend to attend the annual Twin Cities Alumni Chapter (TCAC) Pig Roast.
Their annual tradition usually draws a good crowd, including roughly 6 dues-paying members of the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter.

There were some changes for the 2018 event. The first was location. Instead of the Lakeville location, the event was held at Minnehaha Regional Park near the heart of Minneapolis, MN. And contrary to what some brothers (with a sense of humor) tell you, Minnehaha does not translate to “little laugh”.

The park featured many shelters (one of which was reserved for the event), trails, splash park, historic sites, food, bike rentals, and of course the picturesque Minnehaha Falls.

(The above photo is at the top of the falls. The photo below is below the falls.)

There was also a new caterer this year, and they did not disappoint. Pulled pork was fall-off-the-bone-tender. The BBQ sauces hit the spot. And there were several positive comments about the sides of mac & cheese, baked beans, and potato salad.

The weather this year was nearly perfect for the pig roast. Temps were in the upper 70s and mid 80s. Sky was clear. Brothers playing the fun yard games could have broke a sweat, but those socializing under the shelter stayed cool. All had a good time. Thank you, TCAC, for hosting another great event!

Cold Temps at 2017 TCAC Pig Roast

Several brothers from the Des Moines – Central Iowa Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, made the annual pilgrimage to Lakeville, Minnesota (just south of the Twin Cities) for the TCAC pig roast.

The Twin Cities Alumni Chapter has hosted an annual summer pig roast going back many years in history. Recently the chapter has hosted this picnic for 6 years running.
Last week’s pig roast was a cold one. Temperatures were in the 50s and 60s with sprinkles on and off. Brothers kept warm with blankets and socialization under the shelter.
Excellent as usual, the pork hit the spot with the approximately 50-60 alumni and collegiate brothers in attendance.

Of special note was the attendance of Past Grand President, Mark Chiacchiari (of Ohio). Travel worked out that Mark and his family could stop by the picnic on their way home from a family vacation in California.

Thank you, TCAC for inviting Des Moines brothers to another great event!

“A” Great March Happy Hour

The Des Moines – Central Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi held its monthly happy hour March 9 at Eatery A in Des Moines. Brothers enjoyed 1/2 price pizzas and other selections before 6 pm.

The hot topics of discussion were the upcoming Iowa State Men’s Basketball team wins at the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City, the new downtown Hy-Vee store, Cheddar, pub trivia, pets (and pet care) among other topics. There was also some business conducted. There had been a vacancy for one of the elected leadership positions. At the happy hour Coleby was overwhelmingly elected to be the next VP-Collegiate Relations. He will help coordinate our chapter’s outreach to the colleges around Iowa and the region and serve as a liaison for jointly-hosted events. Everyone was excited to welcome Coleby (though not pictured above) to the leadership team.

Mark your calendars for the next happy hour April 20.
Also note that the TCAC pig roast has a discounted registration price until April 30.
And April 25 is National Alumni Day!

There were some good drinks, good NCAA b-ball games, a cozy fireplace right next to our table, and plenty of brotherhood to go around.
The chapter now has a social chair. Jenny has volunteered to coordinate several future social events, so stay tuned.
